I finished Winter of the 2011 Blackbird designs loose feathers, so now all 3 are finished. I used DMC for CC colors

I have some boxes to put the additional patterns on when I stitch those out of these leaflets.

I loved this design when Tracy(Ink Circles)first posted it and it showed the fabric too light. I chose to use 35ct. Parchment over 2 and love the colors.

I've decided to do some stash clearing out. I don't want to collect anymore LOL...I'm going to keep what I like at the moment that I hope to stitch someday. Cross eyed cricket and Prairie schooler are two of my collections....I've gone through CEC but not PS yet plus some other designs. I picked up this cute Jeanette Douglas-One Sunflower chart at Celebrations last year. I am more of a 2 strand fan on larger count but this one is to be a delicate touch. It was a fun quick stitch.

This is Autumn of Blackbird Designs 2011 loose feathers. Heads up....there are several colors you will need 2 skeins of if you do the whole thing as one(at least I did)and I don't know about the CC as I'm using DMC and so don't have to cross each as I go so a skein is fine on those. Piney woods, endive, maple syrup(possibly) & wood trail are the overdyeds that I need multiples of.

This is Plum Street Pudding's 'Sergei' done over 2 on 36 ct. It was a lot of fun to do. I picked it out to stitch for my LNS. I am ready to get back to my own stitching for a bit though.
Scanning shows some tails so going back to clip those 1/16" ends....arghhh.

At the end of 2011 I was browsing through my magazines looking for things to stitch that have been just glanced over. There was this lovely Blackbird Design in August 2003 of JCS. It's called Summer Jubilee. It is to be stitched on Blackbird linen but my LNS had something close "Black Sheep'. It was nice stitching on this even with it being a dark linen. I love the muted shades of this patriotic piece. I'm not a big Americana fan but this one is nice.

Well, I didn't get the ornament quite finished in time for New Years but I'm okay with 114 finishes for the year. What is your goal for this new year? I don't have a goal of #'s but I would like to see more of my already accumulated stash being stitched as I did this year.
We were very blessed this past year with good health and loving family. Hope to be just as blessed this year of 2012.

This is the last of the Rainbow Gallery canvas type pieces I had. I actually had to completely frog this one and start over. I'm now thinking I will put them on paper mache' boxes that I will stain/paint.

Santa's still here

I went through my drawer of kitted up things. There aren't that many in there but some are sure old. I decided to do this Needl love Tweed n Twinkle Santa on 7ct Klostern, I'm not a big fan of aida and large count but I had the fabric so stitched him up. He's over 10" tall.

And wahoo, the edit tools on my blog page finally decided to show back up....sure is a lot easier to fix things than having to go to the dashboard each time.

Had a wonderful Christmas with family. Much preparing and visiting that I didn't even pull out my stitching till the weekend celebrating was over. I managed to finish LHN Fresh Fallen Snow before the weekend started.

Then after Christmas I finished Victoria Sampler's Winter Squirrel less the buttons and bead I have to purchase yet.

I've pulled out some UFOs to work on and get them out of the drawer. Right now I'm working on Needle Love's Tweed n Twinkle on 7ct.

Getting ready for Christmas

We finally got the tree all decorated...it takes several hours to put the tree together and fluff it, an hour or so to put on the lights and about 2 days of a few hours each to get the ornaments all set. I love it when it's done though. It's a 10 ft tree and looks so real in person. You can see my many years of cross stitch ornaments from stitching friends.

I haven't been stitching the last few days until an hour or so ago. I've been heming 5 2yd. fleece blankets that are Christmas gifts. They are all done and ready to get wrapped along with all other gifts.
After finishing the fleece blankets I pulled out redwork block #9 and finished it up.

And here is Aury Tm's a gobble couple done up as a large cube. Took the picture before it got packed away till next year.

Back to my redwork....I'm on the last of the blocks.

Christmas party time

I attended my two xs club Christmas parties yesterday and today. So now I can show the finished ornaments I stitched earlier this year.
These 3 are Val's stuff snowman trio....they show a tad crooked in the pics...more so than the real thing. ;(

A wonderful thanksgiving and a wonderful week

I started out the week by doing some Christmas shopping with my daughter on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. We got most of it done.
I hosted Thanksgiving at my house and enjoyed it as well as the wonderful smells of all the goodies cooking. On Friday my daughter and I went out AFTER the craziness of black Friday and finished our Christmas shopping. The evening was spent resting up and getting to stitch and of course it didn't hurt that the Blues(NHL) were playing either. GO Blues!

I have several finishes since my last post.
This is Homespun Elegance charming bellpull sunflower

I also whipped up a Cross-eyed Cricket mitten.

These are the two halves of CEC 12 days toppper for the ornaments I did earlier this year.

I also got back to my Redwork and finished up another block which was a good sized one. The snowflakes on all of these are my least favorite part to stitch I guess because they are such short runs before a turn. After that one I started and finished the next...it was a nice small one. I'm now working on block #7 which is 1/2 done. I hope to keep going and get them all done so my mom can get the quilt put together.

This was a fun quick stitch...It's JBW's Scottie Dog....there are quite a few possibilities in stitching....stitch with white on black or black on hunter green....all quite cute. Not quite sure yet just how it's going to be finished as it would be a good sized ornament if I choose that.

Brrr it's cold outside

We had close to 70 degrees the last few days with a storm predicted for last night....We did get the rain the last 3 days but they downgraded the storm and boy the temps have dropped with a high of 52 today and strong wind gusts. With all of this I had been working on a garden piece by Shakespeare Peddler called Magic Garden Sampler. I did it on 40ct. Bittersweet. Boy do I like stitching on 40 ct.

I substituted threads pretty closely as I have minimal CC fibers and prefer weeks & Gast anyway. Oops, in a hurry that I didn't heat up the iron.

I just put in the finishing stitches in LHN Melicent Turner sampler....I used floss I had on hand instead of the called for colors. This was for the fall SAL for the LHN Yahoo group.

I also decided to re-frame Elvis. I like him better in this frame and the gifting to my sister was yesterday. She seemed to like it.

I picked up ready made frames at Hobby Lobby for what I could actually make work. All the others will require custom cut frames or fabric framing. Well, here they are just popped in minus one that I need glass for so it won't show well till I get that done. They all need to be permanently mounted and tweaked yet but this shows them a bit.

This is a Dimensions leaflet Snowy St. Nick. He is 90-95% done...I need to only do french knots, beads, metallic blend and some cording. He is about 15" x 15" or so. I started him quite a few years ago and only had about 100 stitches in. Earlier this year I decided to pull him from the UFO drawer and get going.

And I'm almost done on the first of the Gobble couple by Aury TM. These are fun.

One of my LNS - Mom & Me Forever has stitchers stitch the ornaments from the current JCS ornament issue for display in the shop. I got to do Jeanette Douglas' Noel and I loved every minute of it...it has both over 2 and over 1.

I finished up Drawn Thread's October calendar cover....this is a weird piece of fabric....it IS 32 ct.(because I counted it several times) but it just seems so large. I thought it was because I just finished the big sampler on 40 ct. but October even stitched up bigger than the rest in the series. I'm going to go and count the size of the border on some of the others to see if they just made it wider.

BTW, is anyone else having trouble with Photobucket today? I can't get the pages to load right and it won't give me the final upload button to put in my picture.

A finish & Celebrations

If you ever have the opportunity to go to Celebrations at any location, I would recommend it. I took one class and thoroughly enjoyed it once I got there late because I thought it was the next morning. ;(. I also ended up adding the Friday night event which was very nice also. Next time I will take a round robin class to experience more....also I did quite nicely thank you on the stashing front and besides this was my retreat for the year....so instead of hotel & meals just stash & a class.....I will tell you my first purchase was me making a beeline to Inspired Needle to choose a pair of Dovos which I had been wanting but wanted to fondle before purchase...good thing...3 1/2" wouldn't have worked for me. Got a few charts there too...then on to Shakespeare Peddler...WOW...love this room/shop...I got 2 patterns, 2-1/4 yds. of 40 ct fabric(more than enough for the patterns) and 10 'ka-ching' silks for the two charts I got from Keslyn's room.

I spent more time at Celebrations actually stitching though....spending the money didn't take that long so I planted myself in the nice seating area in the lobby with some friends and stitched the afternoon away till that night's dinner.

So alas, Just a few minutes ago I put the last stitches in on My Big Toe-Morning prayer. I intend to frame this right up and make it a point to read it regularly to keep me on track.

I get to preview the shopping area before it opens(with another 100 people of course)then it's shop till I drop or find a good place to sit and stitch and watch for those I know who said they were coming.

I didn't get much stitching done over the weekend because we were out doing family things.
On Friday I finished (minus the beads which go on after interfacing) Sweetheart Tree's Halloween Quadraille. This will be fairly easy to assemble. You use the same method as doing a biscornu to close it up.

A Finish finally

I've been working back and forth on 2 pieces. I finally got one of them finished. This is a leaflet Joy sent to me - 4 My Boys-Fear not tomorrow. I did it over 2 on a piece of sewing linen...it's not square count but I like how it turned out. Some pieces it doesn't matter if the squares are even. I'm even thinking of doing a reproduction sampler on some similar to this....they most likely didn't have even/cross stitch linen back then. I still have to add the buttons to the middle section(have to purchase them yet).

Whew....all done with shades of gray/black. This was a fun stitch though and to step back every once in a while & squint to see the picture develop.

With Thy Needle & Thread birds of a feather mystery sampler is all finished. I really like this design. I used the fibers and fabric called for. It is too big for the scanner which does better at showing the stitching so I had to use the SLR. And sorry for the wrinkles....wanted to show it off and am posting it while the iron is heating up. LOL

I retraced my steps a bit and went back and did Drawn Thread's August calendar cover after having skipped it to do September. I used a piece of scrap hand-dyed fabric for this and love the way it softens the blue and blends well with the sunflowers. FYI for those doing these, the chart cover shows the dragonfly as yellow, but the chart has it charted as the blue.

Now I am stitching on part 3 of the mystery sampler and should have it done this week.

Now that the 13 year cicadas have gone and we are awaiting the yearly ones to pop in, and also fighting off the Japanese beetles I thought I would stitch a pleasant bug. Here is Alessandra Adelaide's libellula(dragongfly). It's a bit pale on the scan, but I stitched it on cream 36 ct. with Seafoam HDF.

A Blackbird Designs finish

This is Pumpkin Farm, much more vivid colors than the picture on the leaflet. I think I like the muted colors better but it will stay....will always from now on do a floss toss of called for colors for their designs....this is at least the 2nd time it doesn't look as nice as portrayed. Oh well, live and learn. I may also frog the year and rearrange the layout for it. Looked great with 2004 that way but not 1995.

Yesterday, the inside thermometer which tells me the temp outside on the deck(this one tells apparently heat index & wind chill) said it was 121 F. Enough to keep me inside for the heat of the day. It was pleasant last evening though.
So, because of the heat, and inbetween things I plan to accomplish with DD this summer I finished a couple more small items.

Drawn thread calendar covers. Nice to have them come one at a time to stitch up and wait for the next one. Now if only I'd finish my finishes that quickly.

I did finally frame up my Crossed Wing Redtail Hawk I did last year. It fits perfectly in a 12 x 12 ready made frame from Michaels(the type for scrapbooking pages or albums)....it has a nice burnished finish on the frame and the finished product looks great in my grouping of pictures above the entertainment center.

This is a CEC freebie 'The colors of my garden' that is to go along with the Star spangled stars....don't see the theme here except for the red/white/blue but it will be made into a star anyway.

I would have had another finish last night but I left out one stitch on a letter and it threw the row off. So Mr. Frog was kicked out and I am finishing up sometime this weekend. I have a busy holiday weekend that starts today so I don't know when I will get to stitch.

I am also back to working on my redwork snowmen blocks for the quilt. (It's about time).

My birthday was last month. My friend, Nancy, had told me she was working on a gift for me. I couldn't imagine what she would be stitching. Well, I should have guessed it would be one of my favorites, Prarie Schooler. Aren't these floss tags wonderful. She does such beautiful stitching and these are over 1. I LOVE them. This is CEC 2010 carrot freebie. I made a few changes in the pattern. I have the carrot series already done and display them each Easter. My mom is the one that is good at this type of finishing...but I'm learning and help when I can.

I see all the finishes I did this week and start to feel a bit guilty about my stitching time....but I did get DD's room finished on the painting after tedious wallpaper and paste removal and she & I will have fun arranging everything back in there. The house is picked up and cleaned....the last load of laundry is in.
I do know that my stitching time will end up being evenings only very soon as the weather is warming up and outside duties will be calling me....I guess that's why I don't feel bad that the cold winter months is when I get lots of stitching time.(well, I don't ever really feel guilty about it lol).

After 70's and 80's last week and 40's this week we have snow again....so far only an inch and not on the roads. Oh well, it's March in the midwest, so it can be expected.

60-70 degree weather this weekend and supposedly the rest of the week too, but this am we woke up to snow. We got over 5" here with varied amounts within 15 minutes from us.
So while the kiddo was sleeping in I 'had' to be quiet. LOL What an excuse to stitch. ;)
I worked on the next installment of Drawn Thread's calendar cover. Here is April. Used fabric from my stash as well as some of the fibers.

I was beginning to wonder if I was supposed to stitch this Blackbird Design. It's called Snow Garden.....I started it 4 times....first over 1, then decided I wanted it full sized. So I pulled out a piece of Stormy sky 32ct. even weave I had in my stash....got the house done and did NOT like the way the colors were turning out....they didn't look anything like the cover pic so I frogged the house and chose my own colors using 4 of called for colors but one of those for a different symbol.Then I got the border and house done and the border was off 1/2 thread so I had to frog all of it. Finally started and continued with no further problems.

I finished up the Cross-eyed Cricket 12 days series. Really need to stash dive to come up with a larger project to do. Until then I'm going to work on Blackbird designs Snow Garden....I started it over one last night but after a little bit I think I want to do it full sized, so will restart it.

After finishing CEC 9 drummers drumming....look what I saw in my backyard....I know they are huge but it's my first time seeing one in person....He's @ 1 foot tall and so beautiful.

Today is a cloudy/rainy day here so a great day for doing things inside. Enjoying watching the rain wash all the winter salt and mess off everything. I'm keeping busy doing some cleaning, laundry and will settle down to stitch this afternoon & watch the Blues hockey game.
Here are two more with only 2 left of the CEC 12 days pears. Most are way cuter than the leaflet shows...shop models are what made me decide to stitch them.

Here are CEC Four Colly birds and Five golden rings....I always thought it was 'calling' birds...I guess these are just another take on them. I think they are all cute anyway.

LOL, I don't even WANT to start counting. LOL But I am working on the CEC 12 days series. Here is #12 & #1. This is one of those series I wanted to do but kept putting it off. I will be so happy when I get to finish them and display them this next Christmas though I'm not rushing to finish them. They are an easy quick stitch though.

Well, the snow amount was less(that's fine with me)than predicted but the winds were horrid all night long. We ended up with 9" of the white stuff and man is it cold out there. I plowed the driveway 3 times yesterday and this morning. It's enough to get in and out now and now that they opened up the major highway across the state.

for the Blizzard we are to get today with our 8-24" of snow to come. Yesterday we got the ice pellets and it isn't too bad but bad enough for schools to be closed.
I stitched off & on most of the day while also getting everything in the house caught up in case we lost power. I started and finished By the Bay Frostys Tree Trimmers. There are 4 different hatted snowmen in the pattern, I liked the one without the hat. The pattern is going in my sale album on the tab above or my photobucket link for all my sale stash & finishes.

I had this Halloween Hinzeit to do and thought it would be perfect to get away from snowmen seeing as we are to get hit with a MAJOR snowstorm tonight into tomorrow....ice, pellets then anywhere form 8-24" of snow for my area. ughhh....please just keep the power on.
Have plenty to do if we keep power....DD's bedroom wallpaper is all stripped so to wash walls then paint is in the plans with evenings of stitching.
On the Hinzeit, I used weeks Trick or Treat for the border with DMC for the lettering.

We got an easy 6" overnight of the white stuff...haven't gone out to measure it for real but will have to later to plow the driveway so hubby can get in after work. (just measured 9")
Today will probably be a scrapbooking day with DD since she's off school. Of course I will get some stitching in, but most likely tonight.

Last night I finished up Shepherd's Bush A winter's tale...hmmm maybe stitching him was equivalent to a snow dance. LOL
